General

What is LottoLend, and what is a prize-linked loan?

LottoLend is a 100% Canadian-owned financial technology company based in Calgary. We offer prize-linked loans up to $1,500. A prize-linked loan is a short-term unsecured cash loan repaid by pre-authorized debit when you receive your salary payments. It's like a payday loan, but it gives you the chance to win cash prizes in weekly draws. Every $10 borrowed gives you one (1) ticket into the draw following the full repayment of your loan. We hold weekly draws on Fridays for several cash prizes ranging from $10-$1,000, and a variable $10,000 jackpot!

What is LottoLend's mission?

LottoLend was created to help Canadians become more financially secure. We’re on a mission to promote financial inclusion and incentivize responsible borrowing. Why? Because many studies show that healthy financial behaviors - and having access to emergency funds specifically - contribute to better mental and physical health, which results in a happier, healthier and wealthier life. We're different from traditional short-term unsecured lenders in one big way; we pool our revenue from lending, pay our operating expenses, and give the rest back to our customers through weekly cash prize draws.

How does it work?

1. Take out a loan. Every $10 borrowed gives you one (1) ticket. Tickets are automatically generated. 2. Pay off your loan. Once your loan is paid off in full, your tickets will be automatically entered into the next weekly draw. 3. Win Prizes. Draws are held on Fridays. We use a secure quantum randomization engine to select winning numbers. If your ticket number is drawn for any of the cash prizes, you win! ‍You will be asked to correctly answer a skill-testing math question question (through e-mail) to receive your cash prize. Don’t worry, you get three tries to get it right! The prize amount will be deposited into your savings account after correctly answering the skill-testing question.

Is LottoLend a lottery?

No, but it’s like a lottery in the sense that you can win big. LottoLend offers customers a promotional contest. You get chances to win money with our unique weekly draws just by borrowing. There is no gambling involved and no additional cost to participate in our weekly contests. In fact, you can enter for free without taking a loan by following the steps in our Rules of Play.

How do you offer more value than other lenders?

Unlike traditional lenders, we pool a portion of our revenues and pay it back to our customers through weekly cash prizes. This lowers the effective average APR (annualized percentage rate), which means we charge our customers significantly less than other lenders.

Do I need to have a bank account to use LottoLend?

Yes. We need to connect to your bank account as part of our verification process, and to make and receive payments.

What is Instant Bank Verification (IBV)?

Instant verification is a fast and secure process that grants us viewing privileges to your bank account. Your personal information remains safe and secure, since Instant verification shares the same level of security as your bank. All we are provided is a copy of your bank statement: we never log in to your account, nor do we ever see your ID or password information. While logging into your financial institution your private information remains private. With IBV we can make a quick decision regarding your application, meaning you can get your funds quickly and easily. This is our recommended process as it allows us to serve you best by providing a fast and secure way to get your loan approved.

How does LottoLend make money?

We earn revenue on interest and fees. This is what covers our operating costs and allows us to pay out cash prizes to lucky customers.

Are you only available in Alberta?

We are only available in Alberta right now. We are preparing to expand to other provinces soon.

Is LottoLend only available online, or do you have stores?

Thanks to the convenience of the internet, LottoLend is online only – and you can get your funds e-Transferred to you the same day! Being online only (we have no stores) allows us to lower our operating costs and return more cash to our customers.

What are some alternatives to a short term unsecured loan?

Ask your employer for an advance – Some employers are willing to provide paycheck advances to help employees cover emergency expenses. The fees and interest are often lower. Payment plan with creditors – Contact your creditors directly to request alternate payment arrangements until you can pay in full. Many are willing to work with borrowers. Borrow from friends or family – If you have a trusted friend or relative who can loan you money, this avoids borrowing costs entirely. Just be sure to formalize a repayment plan. Secured credit card – These require a cash deposit that acts as your credit limit. This option helps those trying to establish credit history. Traditional loans – Banks, credit unions, and online lenders may approve standard personal loans at lower rates for those with good credit scores.

Loan Application

Does applying for a loan affect my credit score?

No. We do not pull your credit score to make a loan decision.

What information do I provide in order to apply for a loan?

To apply for a loan with LottoLend, you will need to provide some personal information, a valid government-issued ID, a checking account, and other documentation if required. It's a quick and easy process, all done online.

Do you accept people with bad credit?

Yes, we accept customers with all types of credit scores. We base our decision on a score derived from a proprietary system that assesses creditworthiness through bank account transaction analysis.

Do you require collateral for the loan?

No. Most online loans are unsecured, meaning you don’t need to provide collateral to secure the loan. This reduces the risk associated with borrowing and protects your assets.

Can I apply for a loan over the phone or through email?

Unfortunately, our agents cannot process the application over the phone or via email for security purposes. Applying online is quick and easy. If you have questions about the process, feel free to send us an email.

Is there a minimum borrowing requirement?

The minimum borrowing amount is $100.

How long does it take to get a loan?

Applying for an online loan is a breeze. Your application will be processed within minutes. Once approved, you can expect to receive your funds on the same day (often within 30 minutes) or the next business day, depending on your bank’s processing times.

Can I have multiple loans at the same time?

Easy folks, only one loan at a time.

How do I collect my cash prize when I win?

We will notify you through email and text if you win (and a call if you win the jackpot). You will be required to correctly answer a simple skill-testing math question in order to receive your cash prize. After correctly answering the question, your cash prize will be e-transferred to your bank account.

Loan Approval

Can I repay early by e-Transfer, and reapply?

Please note that repaying by e-Transfer in advance will NOT allow you to reapply immediately for residents of Alberta. In Alberta, you will not be able to reapply until the final payment due date that was scheduled in your loan agreement. Note that you always need to obtain authorization from LottoLend before sending a payment by e-Transfer. Should you wish to repay your loan early please notify us a support@lottolend.ca. Only after having received the OK, send your e-transfer to payment@lottolend.ca (no password required). If a question/password is required, put “password required” for the question and “LottoLend” for the answer. Make sure to add your email or loan number with the e-Transfer in the message field. You must send us a request to pay by e-Transfer at least 4 business days before your payment due date. Failure to do so will result in your pre-authorized debit being initiated and you will lose your privilege to repay by e-Transfer. READ THIS CAREFULLY! Never send a payment by e-Transfer before validating the balance amount with us because in case you under or overpay, this will add a delay in the treatment. Once you have obtained the balance, send the payment right away. Your balance can be different tomorrow. Never send a payment by e-Transfer before validating if the Pre-authorized debit has already been initiated to avoid double payment. You’re your email carefully to see if there is a deadline to send to payment. If yes, don't send the payment after this deadline.

Can I take out a new loan to repay my current loan?

We can only offer one loan at a time. We are a licensed lender and we are regulated by the consumer protection of every province in which we operate. These laws do not allow us to give you a second loan if a previous loan has not been fully repaid. Once your current loan will be fully repaid, you will be able to obtain a new loan.

Do you report payments to credit bureaus?

LottoLend does not report your payment to the credit bureaus as we are a short term lender. Please note that unpaid loans that end up in collections will affect your credit score.

How do I pay back my loan?

We take care of everything! Your loan payment will be debited directly from your bank account on your pay date, as agreed upon in your loan agreement.

Can I change or push back my payment date?

As per your contractual agreement with LottoLend, we need to keep the payment dates as they appear on your contract. This is why it is very important to borrow an amount that you will be able to repay easily. However, in the instance that a payment is missed, one of our Collection Account Specialists will contact you to offer you a personalized solution that suits your needs. Rest assured that our Collection Account Specialist will work with you based on your situation to find the appropriate repayment plan for you. Nonetheless, we strongly suggest doing your best to avoid the additional fees a missed payment can generate.

My payment is going to bounce, what do I do?

If you are unable to make a payment, contact support@lottolend.ca at least four days in advance of the payment date so that we can make alternative arrangements.

The payment has not been debited from my bank account yet

The process of debiting your account can sometimes be longer with some bank institutions. The reason is that the banks have to update their files and process these requests on their side afterwards. The major banks are fast but it can happen that some smaller institutions take more time to process a debit or a deposit. If you don't see the debit in your account in the morning, please wait in the afternoon to see if it is processed. If the day after you still don't see the payment, please send us an email to support@lottolend.ca.

What are my payment dates?

The fastest way to find your repayment dates is to go into your email inbox and search for the email coming from LottoLend in which your Loan Agreement is attached. Into your loan agreement, you will be able to find out your repayment date(s). You can also reach our customer service at support@lottolend.ca to request what is your remaining repayment date(s) and amount.

What happens if I don’t pay off my loan?

LottoLend encourages responsible lending and tries to make it as easy as possible for you, but failure to repay your loan may result in a negative report to the credit bureaus, which could reduce your credit score. If you do not repay your loan on your payment due date(s), your loan will be considered delinquent and will be subject to an NSF fee(s) of up to $48 depending on your province for any payment missed. In addition, late interest will accrue on any unpaid balance at an annual rate of up to 59% per annum depending on your province. Your account can be sent to external collection agency or even could be taken up in court and you will have to bear all the legal, court and administration fees. It is never a good idea to leave your balance unpaid, if you are having financial difficulties, please let us know and we can work with you to develop a comfortable repayment plan.

What is my remaining balance right now?

Contact us at support@lottolend.ca and we will notify you of your current balance.

Reapplying for Loans

Can I repay in advance to obtain a new loan?

You are entitled to repay your loan in advance at any time without any penalty fees in every province. However, in Alberta, be aware that repaying in advance will NOT allow you to reapply immediately. You will only be able to apply for a new loan on or after the date of your last scheduled payment due date, as listed in your previous loan agreement. To find out the date you will be able to reapply, read you loan agreement and find the end date and apply after that date, or contact us at support@lottolend.ca. As a responsible lender, LottoLend aims to encourage its customers to repay according to the original terms and dates of their loan agreement. Our goal is to help our customers in the long run, to help them get out of the debt cycle. LottoLend is committed to offering financial guidance to help customers improve their finances.

I've paid off my loan early, why can't I reapply?

In Alberta, if you repay your loan in advance, you will not be able to reapply until the final payment due date indicated in your loan agreement. If your loan has been repaid on the exact repayment dates of your previous loan agreement and you cannot yet reapply, this means that we have not received the response from the bank for your final payment yet. After your final loan payment has been debited from your bank account, it takes 4 full business days for the bank to send us confirmation of that payment transaction. If you wish to reapply before then, send us a proof of payment by email (at least 1 day after your payment date) to support@lottolend.ca and put "Proof of Payment" as the subject of your email. Make sure to put the document as an attachment and not copy-paste it in your email. Make sure to send a proof of payment that respects the following criteria or it will be refused, and you will have to wait the 4 business days to reapply. If the payment of your loan left your account with a negative balance, make sure to send a proof of overdraft protection to support@lottolend.ca and "Proof of overdraft protection" as the title. Be sure to send your proof of payment from the same email you used to create your LottoLend account at lottolend.ca. LottoLend reserves the right to refuse a proof of payment if it determines that your proof of payment does not respect our criteria. For any questions feel free to contact us at support@lottolend.ca.

When can I reapply?

You will not be able to reapply until after the final due date on your previous loan has passed and your final payment has been cleared, which can be up to four days after the payment was sent.

Why won't the system let me reapply?

You will not be able to reapply until after the final due date on your previous loan has passed and your final payment has been cleared, which can be up to four days after the payment was sent.

Receiving Funds

Can I receive my funds by e-Transfer?

Absolutely! At LottoLend, everyone will receive their funds by e-Transfer, even on weekends and holidays! Once your contract is electronically signed, your e-Transfer is sent within two minutes.

I can't receive e-Transfers

Be sure to answer 'NO' to the question in the application that asks if you would like to receive your funds by e-Transfer. Those who answer 'NO' to that question will be receiving their funds by direct deposit. On our side, the funds will be sent in the next file scheduled for direct deposit which is Monday to Friday at 2:30 pm EST. Depending on your financial institution, you should see the funds in your bank account on the evening of the same day the direct deposit was sent or the day after.

I did not receive my e-Transfer

The e-Transfer is automatically sent to your email address two minutes after the contract signature. If you don't see it in your email inbox, make sure to check into your junk folder as well. Make sure to verify if you received the e-Transfer in the email inbox of the email address you used to create your LottoLend account. If you set up auto-deposit for this email address, you will receive the money deposited directly into the bank account linked to your email address. So please check your bank account first to see if the deposit is there. If you still find nothing, it is possible that Interac has banned your email address so you cannot accept e-Transfers to this email address. To validate this, you can contact Interac directly at 1-888-238-6433. If you wish to support@lottolend.ca asking at what hour the e-Transfer was sent.

What is the password for the e-Transfer?

The password for the e-Transfer has been provided to you by email and by SMS at the same time the e-transfer was sent to you. Make sure to validate these two channels prior to contacting us. If you still can't find the password, you can contact us anytime at support@lottolend.ca.

What is the difference between e-Transfer and direct deposit?

E-Transfers are email money transfers that are sent to your email address. Once you receive the email in your mailbox, you have to follow a link into the email to manually deposit the money into your bank account. If you already set up the auto deposit, this step will be done automatically. The magic about e-Transfers is that it can be sent and received 24/7 no matter if the bank is open or not. If you have selected this option in your loan application, you will receive your e-Transfer two minutes after having sign your contract and will be able to access your money even on Weekends and Holidays. Alternatively, direct deposits are deposited directly into your bank account. If you have selected this option into your loan application, your money will be automatically deposited into the bank account mentioned in your loan agreement and your funds will be sent at 2:30 pm EST the same day or the next business day (depending on what time you sign your Loan Agreement). Once sent, the reception of your funds in your bank account may take between half a day to one business day.

When will I receive my funds?

If you choose to receive your funds by e- transfer, you will receive them within 2 minutes after your contract signature, even on weekends and holidays! If you choose to receive your funds by direct deposit, your funds will be sent at 2:30 pm EST the same day or the next business day (depending on what time you sign your Loan Agreement). Once sent, the reception of your funds in your bank account may take between half a day to one business day.

You sent the e-Transfer to the wrong bank account

E-transfers are email money transfers, which means the money is sent to an email. Once you receive the email in your mailbox, you have to follow a link into the email to manually deposit the money into your bank account. If you already set up the auto deposit, (linking an email to a bank account) this step will be done automatically. So the e-transfers we sent you cannot really be sent to the wrong bank account as it is your choice to deposit it where you want to. If for any reason you forgot to remove the auto deposit function and your e-Transfer was sent to a bank account you can't access anymore, you will need to contact your bank directly and find a solution with them as (on our side) the process is completed and your funds have been sent to the email address provided in your loan agreement.

Referrals

How do referrals work?

Get $15 for every successful referral, the recipient gets $15 too. If you take out a new loan with us, we will automatically send you a unique referral code via email. If you aren't a customer of LottoLend, you can contact support@lottolend.ca to request a code that you can share. If your referee takes out a loan and pays it off in full according their agreement, you each get $15 following the full repayment of their first loan. And as with all our loans, they'll get draw tickets for cash prizes as well!

Contest and Cash Prizes

Prize winner notifications are sent on Friday of each week, following each weekly draw. You will be asked to correctly answer a skill-testing multiple choice math question to receive your prize. Don’t worry, you get three tries to get it right! The prize amount will be e-transferred into your bank account within two days after correctly answering the skill-testing question.

Do my tickets rollover to the next draw?

What happens if I win a cash prize?

If you won (congrats!), we will email and text you notification of your win and the amount won on the day of the draw (Fridays). You will be required to correctly answer a three part multiple choice skill testing question and email your answer back to us. Once the correct answer has been received we will initiate the cash prize payment to your account and notify you that that payment has been sent.

Why do I need to answer a skill testing question?

In Canada, rules around contests are governed by several different pieces of legislation, including the Competition Act, anti-spam rules and the Criminal Code. To be complaint with these rules, our contest winners must correctly answer a skill testing question in order to receive their prize. For more information, please see our Official Rules.

Can I win more than once per draw?

Yes! If your numbers are drawn multiple times, you win multiple prizes.

Can I pick my ticket/entry numbers?

All numbers are randomly generated by our system. In the future, we may add a feature to offer lucky number selection.
